Jharkhand broke into the final of the 11th Indian Hockey Junior Women’s Championship taking place in Simdega by defeating the mighty Maharashtra 3-1 on Thursday, entering the penultimate stage of the prestigious event for the third time in a row.

Host Jharkhand will face Haryana for the summit clash on Friday.

On Thursday, an aggressive Jharkhand, however, restricted them from playing defense early on and also managed to score the net at regular intervals to outshine rivals. Jharkhand’s three goals came in the form of penalty corners in the 14th, 42nd and 50th minutes of the game. Maharashtra scored their only goal in the 17th minute.

In another semi-final clash, Haryana defeated Chandigarh 3-2, sealing her place in the final.

Hockey Jharkhand President Bhola Nath Singh said that based on the team’s current performance, Jharkhand was confident of lifting the champion trophy.

“The players have been on a winning streak since the start of the tournament. Now, it’s just a matter of a final match. Although the two best teams have reached the final, our players are in good shape. We look forward to a memorable outing on Friday, ”he said.

The president of Hockey Simdega, Manoj Konbegi, said that the final will be played from 3:00 p.m. The state sports minister, Hafizul Hassan, will be present as the main guest. During the opening of the tournament on October 20, Prime Minister Hemant Soren launched several projects to promote the game in Simdega, considered to be the hotbed of hockey.

“The final challenger will be played starting at 3 pm and the match for fourth place between Chandigarh and Maharashtra will be played starting at 9 am in the morning (Friday),” Konbegi said.
