Captain of India for the first time in test cricket, KL Rahul led from the front in the second test underway against South Africa at the Wanderers in Johannesburg. The 29-year-old scored a good fifty when the rest of India’s first-rate hitters failed to get between runs in the first inning on Day 1. Speaking of his recent performances in test cricket, the former batsman from India Aakash Chopra greeted Rahul: saying that his “impeccable” temperament and his patience are signs of a “fantastic player”.
“Leaving the outside delivery actually allows you to stay there long enough to score runs. He has shown impeccable judgment. He knows where his stump is and that’s because of the position of his head. He also has the temperament and the patience, and these they are the hallmark of a fantastic player, “Chopra said on Star Sports during the Lunch show.
Rahul played with a lot of composure on Day 1 as he left the misdirected deliveries (off the stump), which the rest of the Indian hitters were unable to do against the South African pacemakers.
Unfortunately, India’s backup captain was knocked out by Marco Jansen’s short pitch while hitting at 50.
The struggles of Cheteshwar Pujara (3) and Ajinkya Rahane (0) continued, while Mayank Agarwal and Hanuma Vihari also failed to conjure much in Virat Kohli’s absence.
The usual pattern of India is not playing the test in progress after suffering an upper back spasm.
The visitors were eliminated by 202 in the first inning with South Africa 35 by one, in response, on the stumps on Day 1.
