The monsoon is likely to revive in northwestern India from Thursday, with widespread rains over Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Haryana in the next 3-4 days, according to the Indian Meteorological Department.

A cyclonic circulation extends over Jharkhand and its surroundings. It is likely to move to the west northwest in the next 48 hours through northeast Madhya Pradesh. The western end of the monsoon trough is near its normal position and the eastern end is south of its normal position. Strong southerly winds from the Bay of Bengal to northeast India will continue to prevail until August 19. Due to these weather conditions, there is likely to be increased rainfall activity in central and northern adjacent mainland India for the next 2-3 days. Widespread rain activity with isolated heavy rains is very likely in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Odisha, Jharkhand, Ganges region in West Bengal on August 18-19; Widespread rain activity with isolated heavy to very heavy rains is very likely to continue in Northeast India and West Bengal and Sikkim for the next 2 days. Rain activity in northwestern India is likely to increase from Thursday to August 19. Scattered to fairly widespread rainfall activity is likely with isolated heavy rains in eastern Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand from 19 to 21 August; over Himachal Pradesh, Haryana and West Uttar Pradesh on August 20-21. Isolated heavy to very intense rains are also very likely in Uttarakhand on August 19-20. .
