DEVBHUMI: A Maharashtra fisherman was killed and a crew member of his boat was injured in a gunshot by Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA) personnel near the international maritime border line in the Arabian Sea off the coast of Gujarat, a police officer said on Sunday. The incident happened around 4 p.m. Saturday, he said.
“A Thane fisherman in Maharashtra, who was on a ‘Jalpari’ fishing boat, was killed after PMSA staff opened fire on him and other crew members on Saturday night,” said the police superintendent of Devbhumi Dwarka, Sunil Joshi.
There were seven crew members on the ship and one of them also suffered a minor injury in the shooting incident, he said.
The body of the deceased fisherman, Sridhar Ramesh Chamre (32), was taken to the port of Okha on Sunday and the police of Porbandar Navi Bandar, who have jurisdiction in Gujarat over any incident that occurs beyond 12 nautical miles in the country, I was registering an FIR. Arabian Sea, he added.
“Chamre was on the ‘Jalpari’ fishing boat, which had set sail from Okha on October 25 with seven crew members, five of whom were from Gujarat and two from Maharashtra,” Joshi said.
