JSLPS and Sightsavers India Team Up to Create a Respectable Work Culture for the Disabled | Ranchi News
Ranchi: The Jharkhand State Livelihood Promotion Society (JSLPS) with the help of Sightsavers India, a development organization, launched a campaign for people with disabilities in the state in an attempt to create a respectable workplace for people with different disabilities.
Two days ago, JSLPS signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Sightsavers India in Ranchi paving the way for a four-year alliance to work in this tribal heartland.
JSLPS officials said Sunday that the formal launch of activities on the ground will begin in the coming weeks.
JSLS Executive Director Nancy Sahay said they had also published a handbook, Pathways to Inclusive Employment (employer’s guide), during the memorandum of understanding signing event to encourage inclusive practices of private companies.
She said: “Ensuring an inclusive work culture is crucial for the integration of people with disabilities in the workplace. Companies have the potential to help people with disabilities find work. They can start and their assistance can make a big difference in the lives of people with disabilities ”.
Sightsavers India CEO RN Mohanty added that regardless of legal mandates, most organizations avoid hiring people with disabilities due to negative outlook and wrong assumptions. But with the right awareness, experiences, mindfulness and demonstration of positivity, employers can understand that creating an inclusive work environment is beneficial to both the organization and employees with disabilities, he said.
“People with disabilities still face many obstacles when it comes to fair and equitable labor participation. Barriers related to employment through real can be overcome. Sightsavers India through its social inclusion program aims to build employability as an intrinsic part of the economic empowerment of people with disabilities, involving employers and ensuring that people with disabilities lead a life of independence and dignity, ”he said. .
On their line of action, Sahay said that they will work on three levels: sensitize employers, train people with disabilities and create opportunities for them. There are around two lakhs of disabled people in Jharkhand, based on the registered number of beneficiaries under different government disability schemes.
“Gradually, JSLPS will implement different activities designed exclusively for these people in the coming weeks. For training and skills, we will use the network of DDU and GJKY training centers across the state to prepare them for the job markets, ”Sahay said.
