Former Team India player VVS Laxman revealed how impressed Rahul Dravid was with the latest Team India rookie KS Bharat. The current head coach of India’s senior men’s cricket team elaborated on Bharat’s “good keeping skills”, which he considered “only after Wriddhiman Saha in Indian cricket,” according to Laxman. Speaking during a Star Sports show, Laxman said: “I still remember Rahul Dravid excited about KS Bharat’s wicket maintenance skills. He told me that Bharat has good maintenance skills, after Wriddhiman Saha in Indian cricket.”
Bharat impressed behind the stumps in his test debut against New Zealand with some sharp catches and a smart stump. He also convinced captain Ajinkya Rahane to make a successful review against hitter Will Young which helped India break the dangerous initial partnership between Tom Latham and Young.
Laxman pointed out the importance of a good goalkeeper on the side in tough Indian conditions and on shooting. Bharat’s “presence of mind” and “great technique” with the gloves were two of the factors that left Laxman in awe.
“In these quality spinning conditions, if you don’t have a reliable wicketkeeper, you will miss a lot of opportunities. What we saw today was great technique and great presence of mind, not at all freaked out by someone who has come to this team recently and He only played because Saha was injured, “Laxman added.
Indian bowlers took control of the situation on Day 3 as they eliminated New Zealand by 296 runs to take a crucial 49 run lead.
Left arm spinner Axar Patel made his fifth round of five courses in four Tests for India to break the backbone of the visiting team.
