India Harnaaz Sandhu Miss Universe 2021, Crown returns home after 21 years

Harnaaz Sandhu is the new Miss Universe, 21 years after Lara Dutta won the title in 2000.

Harnaaz Sandhu from India is the new Miss Universe, 21 years after Lara Dutta won the title in 2000.

Sandhu represented India today at the 70th Miss Universe 2021, which was held in Eilat, Israel.

The 21-year-old from Punjab claimed the crown by beating Nadia Ferreira from Paraguay and Lalela Mswane from South Africa.

Ms. Sandhu received the crown from Andrea Meza, former Miss Universe 2020 from Mexico.

Before the Chandigarh-based model, only two Indian women had won the Miss Universe title: actors Sushmita Sen in 1994 and Lara Dutta in 2000.

When asked what advice she would give young women on how to deal with the pressures they face, the serene Sandhu said: “The biggest pressure faced by young people today is believing in themselves, knowing that they are unique and that is what that makes you beautiful. Stop comparing yourself to others and let’s talk about more important things that are happening around the world. “

“This is what you need to understand. Come out, speak for yourself because you are the leader of your life, you are the voice of yours. I believed in myself and that is why I am here today,” Ms. Sandhu said with aplomb.
