Four men abduct a gangrape widow in Jharkhand’s Dumka district

Four men in the Dumka district of Jharkhand have been charged with kidnapping and kidnapping a widow who had gone out to relieve herself.

Three of the four defendants in the case have been arrested.

Four men reportedly abducted and ganged a widow in the Dumka district of Jharkhand.

The incident occurred on Friday night when the victim came out to answer nature’s call. Two defendants, who were waiting at the scene, kidnapped her and fled on their bicycle.

The victim was taken near a river on the border of Shikaripara and Kathikund, where two more defendants were waiting. The group dragged her into the bushes and took turns raping the victim.

Before leaving, they threatened the victim with dire consequences if she revealed the incident.

The victim somehow managed to return home. She had been living with her parents after her husband’s death when she was 17 years old. He also has a son. Her family encouraged her to report the incident to the police.

An FIR was filed based on the victim’s complaint. The defendants have been charged under Sections 366 (Kidnapping, kidnapping or inducing a woman), 376 (Punishment for sexual assault) and 354B (Battery or use of criminal force on a woman with the intention of undressing her) of the Indian Penal Code.

Police have so far arrested three defendants identified as Raju Kewat, Sunil and Ranjit Kewat. The fourth defendant, Sandip Kewat, is currently on the run.

Meanwhile, the victim has claimed that he is 17 years old and therefore the accused may even be tried under the relevant sections of the POCSO Act.
