The Central Bureau of Investigation recorded an FIR on the hit-and-run death of a Dhanbad judge on Wednesday, a day after the Jharkhand High Court asked the federal investigative agency to investigate the case.
“CBI today registered a case related to the death of Uttam Anand, ADJ Dhanbad, at the request of the government of Jharkhand and a new notification from the government of India and took over the investigation. The case was previously registered by the Dhanbad police, ”said CBI spokesman RC Joshi.
The 49-year-old judge was reportedly brought down by a heavy autorickshaw while walking in the morning on July 28 in Dhanbad.
CCTV footage showed the judge was jogging on the side of a fairly wide road in Randhir Verma Chowk when a heavy auto-rickshaw he veered toward him, struck him from behind, and fled the scene.
The locals took him to a nearby hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead upon arrival.
The Jharkhand government had establish a special investigation team (SIT) to solve the case. The judge’s relatives had raised suspicions behind the death to the Jharkhand government.
“CBI has formed a Special Investigation Team to investigate the death case. The team has gone to Dhanbad to collect evidence in the case of the alleged murder, “CBI sources told India Today TV.
