BCCI Announces India Women’s Team for 2022 World Cup;  no place for Jemimah Rodrigues, Mithali Raj to lead |  Cricket

BCCI announced the Indian women’s team for the ICC 2022 Women’s World Cup and the New Zealand series on Thursday. One of the biggest surprises was the omission of hitter Jemimah Rodrigues, who had been an integral part of the team until India’s last limited limits assignment in Australia.

Mithali Raj will lead the 15-member team with Harmanpreet Kaur named as his alternate. Shikha Pandey also remains absent from the Indian team, while Sneh Rana, who impressed with his skills in all formats in 2021, retains his place on the team.

Team India plays its first World Cup match against Pakistan on March 6, 2022 at the Bay Oval, Tauranga. The team will also participate in the 5-game ODI series against New Zealand starting February 11, 2022.

After the match against Pakistan in the Women’s World Cup, India will face New Zealand (March 10), West Indies (March 12), England (March 16), Australia (March 19), Bangladesh (March 22) ) and South Africa (March 27) in the group stage.

India team for 5 ODIs against NZ & ICC Women’s World Cup, 2022: Mithali Raj (captain), Harmanpreet Kaur (vice-captain), Smriti Mandhana, Shafali Verma, Yastika Bhatia, Deepti Sharma, Richa Ghosh (wicket-keeper), Sneh Rana, Jhulan Goswami, Pooja Vastrakar, Meghna Singh, Renuka Singh Thakur, Taniya Bhatia (goalkeeper), Rajeshwari Gayakwad, Poonam Yadav.

Players on hold: Sabbhineni Meghana, Ekta Bisht, Simran Dil Bahadur.

BCCI also announced a 16-member squad for a one-off T20I against New Zealand, to be played on February 9.
