The debate over the next T20I captain from India is intensifying with various pundits and experts voicing their opinions on the right man to replace current skipper Virat Kohli, who will step down after the ongoing T20 World Cup. Former Indian pacemaker Ashish Nehra has drawn up his pick for the next Indian captain in T20I. While Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul have become the pioneers to replace Virat, Nehra supported pacemaker Jasprit Bumrah.

To back up her claim, Nehra explained that Bumrah is part of XI’s replay in all formats. He further explained that Bumrah has all the qualities to become a leader.

“Aside from Rohit Sharma, we are hearing the names of Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul. Pant has traveled the world, brought drinks and even been retired from the team a few times. Rahul was called to the test side after Mayank Agarwal got Injured. As Ajay (Jadeja) said, he (Bumrah) understands the game quite well. He is also in the XI of play in all formats. Nowhere in the rule book is it written that pacemakers cannot be captains. ” Nehra said during a discussion on Cricbuzz (https://www.cricbuzz.com/cricket-videos/49745/can-jasprit-bumrah-be-indias-next-captain-ashish-nehra-ajay-jadeja-discuss).

Reports suggest that the Cricket Control Board in India (BCCI) is likely to make a call about India’s upcoming T20 captain next week. India will host New Zealand later this month for three Q20Is, followed by two tests.
