Ranchi: The Jharkhand Football Association (JFA) can finally send football teams for the next Santosh Trophy and the Women’s National Championship after state government intervention.

The Chief Minister’s Office had weighed in following the Indian Football Federation ruling on Monday that no faction-ridden JFA teams would be allowed after two groups sent four teams to the two tournaments.

“The AIFF team agreed to retest the four teams to choose the sides for the Santosh Trophy and the National Women’s Championship,” Rajesh Kachhap, who weighed in on the matter, told PTI Khijri MLA after the infighting came to light. .

“Now the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs is directly investigating the matter with the AIFF. We do not want to deprive the talented footballers of the state,” he said.

“For five years, soccer activities had stopped in the state despite all our support.”

The women’s event will be held on Wednesday, followed by the men’s event for the Santosh Trophy, said JFA President Nazam Ansari.

“We have followed the three-stage process to select the team, but the rival group (led by Secretary Ghulam Rabbani) has only a handful of players from the state, while the rest are from the northeast,” Ansari said.

“The government had to intervene and issue a notice. We are hopeful of reaching a solution. We want state actors to get their quotas as we have enough talent available in our state,” he added.

Blaming the AIFF for the mess, he said: “They created two IDs, a general email in the name of JFA and another in the name of Rabbani, which created all the confusion.

“Previously, all the data was sent from the common ID, but suddenly, on November 14 at night, the ID changed to Rabbani’s and the team changed as well.”

Rabbani, on the other hand, said that the AIFF rejected all the entries sent by JFA due to the prevailing scenario in the state association.

“The team for the national championship was the responsibility of the secretary,” he said.

“Under my leadership, Jharkhand has produced several national and international players, including six Jharkhand players who were in the national camp preparing for the next AFC Cup (next year in India),” he stated.

Earlier Monday, the AIFF sent a letter to the JFA president and secretary, telling them that no team in the state will be allowed to participate in the Santosh Trophy and the National Women’s Championship.

The Jharkhand teams for the Santosh Trophy and the women’s championship are scheduled to perform on November 25 and 28, respectively.
